George Crumb: "Black Angels" for electric string quartet OGAM 488020-2 www.ogamrecords This CD presents two great XXth century classics, "Black Angels" by George Crumb (1970) and "Ainsi la Nuit" by Henri Dutilleux (1976), completed by the first world recording of the Quartet N° 6 by Raymond Depraz, which was performed for the first time by the Quatuor Stanislas at "Presences", the Festival of Radio-France, in 1994. Although the styles and inspirations of these works are very different, these quartets share a nocturnal atmosphere, evoking three visions of a "kingdom of night", all strange, distressing, serene or poetic. |
